O2 UK to trial VoLTE from October 2015 ahead of launch next year

13 Jul 2015

British mobile network operator O2 UK is to conduct trials of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) during the last three months of 2015, with a view to introducing the technology on a commercial basis in 2016, Light Reading reports. ‘We’re planning to trial VoLTE in Q4 so that our customers get the best experience when we launch the service next year,’ a spokesperson for the operator was cited as saying.

The development makes O2 UK the last of the nation’s cellcos to announce its plans with regards to VoLTE, with EE earlier this month having confirmed it expects to launch the technology this summer. Meanwhile, Vodafone UK has previously said that it too hopes to inaugurate commercial VoLTE services this summer, while Three UK will bring the technology to its customers in September 2015.
