Vodafone Spain introduces VoLTE across its LTE-A network

8 Jul 2015

Vodafone Spain claims to have become the first mobile network operator in the country to offer voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) technology on a commercial basis. The cellco confirmed in a press release that VoLTE has been deployed across the entirety of its ‘4G+’ branded LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. According to Vodafone Spain, VoLTE will both improve call quality and speed up call set-up time, while also enabling customers to access voice and data simultaneously over its LTE network.

A number of handsets are supported, including iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, LG G3, LG G4 and the Samsung Galaxy S5. Vodafone Spain customers that already have one of these handsets will reportedly be able to take advantage of VoLTE immediately, as long as they have updated their handsets, while further compatible devices are expected to be added soon.

As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Vodafone Spain inaugurated its LTE-A network in October 2014, and today the network is available in eight cities, those being: Barcelona, Malaga, Bilbao, Sevilla, Coruna, Valencia, Madrid and Zaragoza.
