Full MNP set to launch tomorrow

2 Jul 2015

Full India-wide mobile number portability (MNP) is set to launch tomorrow (3 July), The Hindu quotes Telecom Commission chairman Raskesh Garg as saying. The nationwide service, which was initially due to be activated on 3 May 2015 but was delayed by two months, will enable users to port their number from one service area to another. Under the existing system, MNP only allowed customers to port their number to other operators within the same circle. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, implementation of full nationwide MNP was delayed by two months following a request by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) to postpone the deadline to allow operators to complete the necessary technical changes to their networks.
