Si.Mobil readies VoLTE launch

30 Jun 2015

Slovenian cellular operator Si.Mobil is set to launch the country’s first voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) services, having already begun live testing on its 4G network, local website Mobile.si reports. The cellco says the technology provides up to three times more voice capacity than 3G and six times more than 2G, leading to faster call set-up and significantly improved sound quality. Si.Mobil, a subsidiary of Telekom Austria, currently provides 4G coverage to over 80% of the population, with plans to increase this to 95% by 2017. It claimed around 30% of Slovenia’s 2.28 million mobile users at the end of March 2015, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
