Vodafone Spain tests LTE broadcast technology with Huawei

Vodafone Spain and Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies have reportedly carried out a trial for Long Term Evolution (LTE) broadcast evolved multimedia broadcast multicast services (eMBMS) technology, allowing multimedia content to be distributed to users over a 4G network. According to Telecom Asia, this eMBMS solution was tested during a football match between Valencia and Celta, with a selection of users with smartphones which supported the technology given real-time access to five channels of multimedia content from the game. With the report noting that this is one of the first trials of the LTE broadcast technology in Europe, it highlighted the fact that it reuses existing 4G spectrum, allocating a small fragment for multicast purposes.
