Tele2 switching on 4G in St Petersburg; adds three regions to 3G footprint

Tele2 Russia has announced commercial launches of 3G networks in Tomsk, Kirov and Tver, bringing the total number of regions covered with 3G or 4G to 24. Following the three-pronged launch, 3G connectivity is available in Belgorod, Volgograd, Vologda, Voronezh, Izhevsk, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, Kemerovo, Kirov, Lipetsk, Murmansk, Nizhniy Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Republic of Komi, Rostov-on-Don, St Petersburg, Saratov, Smolensk, Tambov, Tver, Tomsk and Chelyabinsk.

Meanwhile, the sole region with an active 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to date is Tula, although the Tele2 press release confirms that 4G technology will go live in St Petersburg on 16 June.
