Operators request six-month delay on intermodal portability

10 Jun 2015

Chile’s telecoms operators have asked the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Pedro Huichalaf, to postpone the implementation of intermodal number portability by six months, as the current contract for the number portability manager expires in August 2016, local news portal Pulso writes. Originally scheduled to be introduced in February 2016, intermodal number portability will allow users to transfer the number between fixed and mobile services. Representing the nation’s cellcos, the Portability Committee pointed out that it would be difficult to ‘create incentives’ for the existing portability administrator to implement the necessary changes when their contract expires in around a year.
