Conatel approves Tigo takeover of Sur Multimedia

10 Jun 2015

Tigo Paraguay has reportedly sealed the USD11 million takeover of Sur Multimedia, a cableco which is based in Encarnacion in the Itapua Department, situated on the western shore of the Parana River, opposite Posadas, Argentina. According to Ultima Hora, the long-running deal was granted regulatory approval by Conatel late last month. The cableco, which claims a modest 14,000 user base, is likely to be integrated with the new owner’s Tigo Star cable service.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in December 2014 it was revealed that Tigo had lined up acquisitions for three regional operators: Sur Multimedia, Saturno (based in Fernando de la Mora) and TV Cable Parana (Ciudad del Este). The following month Tigo sealed its USD500,000 takeover deal of Saturno.
