British telco BT has revealed that all football matches in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League next season will be screened at no additional charge for customers who take its IPTV-based BT TV bundle (including a fixed line and broadband package). BT Broadband customers who do not take BT TV may add the BT Sport Pack via Sky satellite TV, via the BT Sport App or on BT Mobile for a fee of GBP5 (USD7.67) a month. BT outbid Sky for the European football screening rights in 2013, spending GBP897 million.
BT has also announced that alongside its new BT Sport Europe channel, it will launch ‘the first Ultra HD (4K) channel in Europe’, BT Sport Ultra HD, in August, and will also introduce a new BT TV Ultra HD set top box.
BT had 1.142 million IPTV subscribers at end-March 2015, up from 1.002 million twelve months earlier.
