Qualcomm selling ‘L-Band’ UK spectrum

9 Jun 2015

The UK subsidiary of chipset manufacturer Qualcomm has announced a plan to sell its wireless spectrum in the ‘L-Band’ 1452MHz-1492MHz range, following the recent European Commission (EC) approval of usage of the band for supplemental downlink applications. Qualcomm UK Spectrum has also had the terms of its spectrum licence altered by British telecoms regulator Ofcom in order to facilitate the sale, reports Mobile Europe. The supplemental spectrum may augment other wireless frequencies recently cleared for commercial usage, including tranches of the 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz bands formerly reserved for the public sector, expected to be auctioned within a year.
