Hawaiian Telcom reveals Gigabit launch

Hawaiian Telcom is set to unveil 1Gbps fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) technology on 8 June, doubling the speeds offered by its existing 500Mbps service. Around 96,000 locations will initially qualify for ‘Fiber 1 Gig’ availability, with more properties added as Telcom’s fibre-optic deployment continues. Eric K Yeaman, Hawaiian Telcom’s president and CEO, commented: ‘We are proud to be the only local company investing millions to expand our next generation broadband infrastructure, enabling speeds that are not only the fastest in Hawaii but among the fastest in the nation.’
