DoT to seek cabinet approval of spectrum policy by end-June

3 Jun 2015

India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will seek cabinet approval for its spectrum sharing and trading policy by the end of June, Live Mint writes, citing communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. The DoT has received the final recommendations from sector watchdog the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Telecom Commission is set to finalise the policy on 11 June before its submission to the cabinet. India’s telecoms industry players have been clamouring for clarification on spectrum trading and sharing policy for several years, arguing that the lack of clear rules on the matter has prevented operators from making the most of scarce spectrum resources.
