Aviat Networks signs multi-year agreements with Globe to support LTE rollout

3 Jun 2015

California-based microwave networking solutions provider Aviat Networks has announced the signing of multi-year agreements for equipment and services with Filipino mobile and broadband provider Globe Telecom to support the operator’s aggressive Long Term Evolution (LTE) expansion. Under the deal, the vendor will supply Globe with its CTR 8540 microwave networking solution to increase capacity of the telco’s backhaul network, provide state-of-the-art synchronisation capabilities and improve network reliability. With Globe currently deploying LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD ultra-broadband access technologies in the country to provide widespread fast mobile internet connectivity for its customers, Aviat says that CTR 8540 will enable ‘efficient, high performance and reliable microwave networks and provide Globe with an upgrade path to deliver new services, including multimedia rich content and broadband data access to the edge of the network’.

Commenting on the contract signing, Globe chief technical advisor Robert Tan, said: ‘Taking the leadership position in mobile for the Philippines, Globe is pushing further to improve its services as well as its customer experience by advancing its future-ready network infrastructure. We have chosen the best-in-class microwave networking platform to take advantage of its advanced features as we progressively deploy leading mobile technologies including LTE and LTE-Advanced all over the country. Ultimately, we can continue to empower our almost 50 million mobile customers with their unique digital lifestyle.’
