Ericsson has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Korean operator KT Corp for collaboration in the Internet of Things (IoT) field, the Swedish technology heavyweight announced in a press release. KT and Ericsson identified LTE-MTC (Machine Type Communications) network and IoT services based on the Korean network as the collaboration focus, investigating factors such as battery life, coverage and complexity of devices. KT and Ericsson are targeting H1 2016 for verification of LTE-MTC technology and relevant IoT services, the release says, adding that the collaboration ‘is meaningful to both companies, since both may explore new B2B and B2G IoT business opportunities through working together to apply future proof network technology and verifying relevant IoT services in advance.’
