Viva, BT announce launch of ‘region’s first’ GIPX hub

1 Jun 2015

Saudi Telecom-backed Viva Bahrain has announced the launch of what it claims is ‘the region’s first Global IP Exchange (GIPX) interoperability hub’, in partnership with UK-based BT Group. According to a company press release, Viva will deliver hosting and connectivity services while enabling BT to extend its GIPX footprint to the Middle East.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, the firms signed an agreement to establish the hub back in April 2014, in a move aimed at providing end-users in the Middle East and beyond with more choice, better service and higher quality communication services. The new GIPX hub is expected to be of particular interest to mobile and fixed service providers across countries such as Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Egypt who need to terminate international voice traffic to other countries.
