Axtel, Telefonica bury the interconnection hatchet

28 May 2015

Mexican wireline operator Axtel has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with Telefonica Mexico (Movistar) to end disputes related to interconnection agreements between 2005 and 2011. The two companies also signed a commercial agreement pertaining to telecoms infrastructure, Axtel said, without giving further details.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in March this year Axtel received a net payment of MXN950 million (USD61.8 million) from America Movil (AM) as part of an agreement to terminate various disputes related to interconnection services between 2005 and 2015. In a separate transaction, Axtel and affiliates of Grupo Iusacell entered into an agreement under which both parties terminated their own interconnection-related disputes dating back to 2005-2010.
