T-Mobile, Alca-Lu complete 400G data transmission trials

27 May 2015

Fixed and mobile operator T-Mobile Czech Republic and equipment vendor Alcatel-Lucent have successfully completed 400G data transmission trials over the former’s network infrastructure. The move forms part of plans to boost T-Mobile’s mobile broadband services across the country, with the firm targeting 3G and 4G LTE coverage of 97% of the population by the end of this year. The pair’s trial was conducted over a distance of 320km, and was designed to demonstrate T-Mobile’s ability to cope with rising demand for data both from the mass consumer market and the enterprise and wholesale sector. Under the trials, Alcatel-Lucent deployed its 400G ‘agile optical networking technology’ over T-Mobile’s existing Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) infrastructure, combined with its 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) and 400G Photonic Service Engine (PSE).
