Sweden’s PTS consults with EC on new MTRs

26 May 2015

Swedish telecoms regulator the Post & Telestyrelsen (PTS) has initiated consultations with the European Commission (EC) on new voice mobile termination rates (MTRs) in the country from 1 July 2015. The regulator is planning to reduce the country’s MTRs to SEK0.0757 (USD0.0897) per minute from the current rate of SEK0.0815, following a revision in the costing model for mobile networks. The proposed cost-oriented wholesale pricing calculation model was subject to two public consultations, in March/April and April/May 2015; the regulator stated that it will be using the latest ‘actual’ statistics on traffic volumes in mobile networks rather than volume forecasts, while also highlighting that it has decided to proceed with GSM/UMTS traffic volume distribution of 40/60.
