T-Mobile Czech Republic, Blue Cell Network to trial IoT with SIGFOX

22 May 2015

T-Mobile Czech Republic and location-based media developer Blue Cell Network are teaming up with SIGFOX – a leading player in the provision of global cellular connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT) – to deploy a new wireless network in Prague focused on IoT. In a press release, French firm SIGFOX says the new network will operate on T-Mobile-managed base transceiver stations (BTS) in the capital and, after the pilot trials, the three participating firms will decide on whether or not to roll out the SIGFOX ‘global’ network across the entire country. ‘We see a future in IoT – basically any device or object will be able to transmit information via the internet, which will facilitate a number of everyday activities and increase their efficiency,’ says Milan Haba, director of innovations at T-Mobile, adding: ‘Therefore we have teamed up with Blue Cell Network to introduce the SIGFOX network, which has been proven in other countries to be one of the world’s best IoT solutions, in the Czech Republic.’

SIGFOX is developing Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) technology for connecting devices which, it claims, offers a ‘scalable, long-range, two-way connectivity and very high capacity’ that complements ‘existing high-bandwidth cellular systems, which are designed for the data-intensive needs of smartphones and other mobile electronics’.
