Ambit officially enters 4G market with Taiwan’s first VoLTE-based offering

19 May 2015

Ambit Microsystems has become the latest Taiwanese mobile network operator to inaugurate its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, with the new player having made good on previously announced plans to launch on 15 May. Notably, in activating its network for the public, Ambit has also become the first Taiwanese cellco to launch voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) commercially, though customers using this technology will initially only be able to call other Ambit subscribers, or those on the Asia Pacific Telecom and Taiwan Mobile networks; it is understood that talks regarding IP peering for VoLTE are ongoing with Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone and Taiwan Star Cellular.

Ambit is initially offering a plan costing TWD998 (USD32.6) per month, with this including unlimited mobile data usage, free intra-network VoLTE calls and text messages and 1,000 minutes of inter-network VoLTE.
