Orange Dominicana chooses Huawei for network expansion

Chinese equipment vendor Huawei has been contracted by Orange Dominicana of the Dominican Republic (DR) to expand its 3G and 4G mobile networks, as well as its fibre-optic backbone infrastructure. Local newspaper Nuevo Diario writes that the expansion plan includes the deployment of over 1,000 new antennas for 3G and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks in major cities and a number of towns. A subsidiary of Luxembourg-based Altice group, Orange claims second place in the DR’s mobile market behind Claro, with a 43.6% share of all subscribers at the end of 2014 according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
