MIIT sets FTTH, 4G targets for 2015

11 May 2015

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has set a target of 200 million new 4G subscribers and 40 million new fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) users by end-2015, Sina Tech reports. Planned expansion of fixed broadband infrastructure is expected to see fibre coverage extended to 80 million new families, whilst mobile operators are expected to roll out 600,000 new 4G-enabled base stations by the end of the year. Responding to calls from Chinese premier Li Keqiang last month to increase access speeds and reduce costs, the MIIT said that it was putting in place five measures to improve broadband infrastructure, including increasing investment and opening the door to private capital.
