Following the launch of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) by Telefonica Deutschland and Vodafone Germany earlier this year, the market’s second largest wireless network operator by subscribers, Telekom Deutschland (TD), has begun preparations for the introduction of the technology, reports teltarif.de. TD, the domestic fixed and mobile unit of Bonn-based telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom, says it plans to roll out VoLTE this year, but declined to disclose an exact launch date for the technology. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Vodafone Germany became the first German operator to initiate the rollout of VoLTE in March 2015, demonstrating the first live VoLTE call on its network at the CeBIT 2015 technology fair in Hanover, while one month later Telefonica Deutschland began activating the service within the O2 network for certain smartphone devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S5.
