3 Austria expands LTE coverage to 85%, plans 98% by summer 2015

7 May 2015

Hutchison Drei Austria (3) has reached 85% population coverage with its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, up from 70% in March. The cellco expects to cover 98% of populated areas by the summer of 2015, which will include improvements to broadband access in rural locations and contribute to breaking down the digital divide, its press release added.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Hutchison’s Austrian arm launched 4G LTE services in Vienna in November 2011, using frequencies in the 2600MHz band, before rolling out a wider LTE network in Q3 2014 via 1800MHz spectrum.
