DoT pushes back MNP deadline

5 May 2015

India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has postponed the deadline for the introduction of full mobile number portability (MNP) by two months, the Economic Times reports. The delay follows a request from industry body the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) to extend the deadline, as operators were required to make some technical changes to their networks due to alterations in the national numbering plan (NNP). According to the DoT, several operators have already put in place the hardware and software systems needed for full MNP, noting that: ‘Internal testing by theses operators is in advanced stages. The detailed final testing is schedule[d] to commence shortly and is likely to be completed in two months for most of the operators.’
