MVNO 168 (formerly 365) budgets USD91m for 3G relaunch

1 May 2015

Thai mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) 168 Communication, formerly known as 365 Communication, has announced plans to invest THB3 billion (USD91 million) in the first stage of its project to provide 3G services over state-owned CAT Telecom’s nationwide 850MHz network, the Bangkok Post reports. As 365, 168 was previously an MVNO over CAT’s sister telco TOT’s 3G 2100MHz network (which has less geographical coverage than CAT’s footprint). The 3G MVNO relaunch on the CAT network is scheduled for 8 May following the signing of a ten-year wholesale agreement, and the company claims to be aiming for ‘one million subscribers by mid-2016’.

168 is focusing on providing mobile broadband plus ‘attractive applications and content offerings to serve niche markets like corporate customers and high-end data users’. 168 has appointed Loxley as its authorised dealer to help it sell 3G SIM cards; Loxley has 100,000 outlets across the country including several hundred dealer shops. 165 also appointed Nai-in bookshop as an authorised reseller via 205 shops nationwide.
