Dutch telecoms giant KPN has reported adjusted revenue of EUR1.919 billion (USD2.116 billion) for the first three months of 2015, a drop of 3.5% from EUR1.989 million in the corresponding period one year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA for 1Q14 climbed 0.2% year-on-year to EUR622 million, while CAPEX increased 5.9% from EUR337 million to EUR357 million in the first quarter.
In operational terms, KPN Mobile’s consumer customer base grew by 4% to reach 7.584 million at end-March 2015, up from 7.290 million one year earlier, with retail subscriptions rising from 3.110 million in 1Q14 to 3.363 million in 1Q15, representing growth of 8.1%. KPN’s consumer broadband base grew 2.7% from 2.734 million to reach 2.809 million at end-March 2015, with KPN noting that it continues to see good uptake of fixed-mobile bundles, including its quad-play package.
CEO Eelco Blok said: ‘The strong operational performance from the second half of last year continued in the first quarter of 2015, and is translating into improved financial performance with adjusted EBITDA stable y-o-y … As we look ahead to the remaining three quarters of 2015 we do see challenges in our markets, notably in the Dutch business segment. However, we have a firm ambition to … maintain rigorous discipline in our OPEX and CAPEX spending, which will underpin growth in our free cash flow.’
