ICASA to cancel inactive ECNS, ECS licences

30 Apr 2015

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has announced that it intends to cancel a number of Electronic Communications Network Service (ECNS) and Electronic Communications Service (ECS) licences that are untraceable and/or inactive, MyBroadband reports. ICASA said that despite numerous requests, no obligatory reports were forthcoming from the following companies: Inburru Technologies (awarded ECNS and ECS licences in 2009), Primetel (ECNS/ECS, 2009), Netralink (ECNS/ECS, 2005), and Serram Systems (ECNS/ECS, 2005). Further, ICASA has given the companies until 15 May 2015 to inform the regulator whether they are ‘active as a licensee’.
