Tele2 to launch 3G in 20 new regions in 2Q15; BWC to rebrand as Tele2 in May

Mobile operator Tele2 Russia (T2 Mobile), which is co-owned by VTB Group (55%) and Rostelecom (45%), has revealed plans to extend 3G connectivity to 20 new regions in the second quarter of 2015, taking its total number of locations covered to 31. The plans were disclosed to local media outlets by Tele2’s head of communications Konstantin Prokshin, who confirmed that cities such as the Rostov-on-Don, Belgorod, Tomsk and Tver are all in line for coverage.

In other news, regional operator BaikalWestCom (BWC) has announced that it will be formally rebranded under the Tele2 banner from 29 May. The Irkutsk-based company was transferred to Tele2’s control as part of the latter’s 2014 amalgamation with Rostelecom’s wireless assets.
