Three UK targets September VoLTE launch

24 Apr 2015

British mobile network operator Hutchison 3G UK, which offers services under the Three banner, has revealed that it expects to introduce voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) technology commercially in September 2015. In a blog post detailing its plans, the operator confirmed it aims to enhance its infrastructure via the rollout of 4G services using spectrum in the 800MHz band. This development, it claimed, will significantly enhance its coverage footprint, particularly indoors, while also allowing for the launch of VoLTE. Meanwhile, Three is seeking to ensure that all of its customers benefit from the network enhancement, to which end it has said it hopes to have around one million subscribers utilising VoLTE by the end of this year, with that figure rising to 7.5 million by end-2016.
