Germany is set to become the first European country to auction off spectrum in the 700MHz band for mobile broadband services on 27 May 2015, having approved the three incumbent mobile network operators to participate in the sale. The Federal Network Agency (FNA, also known as Bundesnetzagentur or BNetzA) has announced that mobile market leader Telefonica Deutschland, Deutsche Telekom-owned Telekom Deutschland (TD) and the UK’s Vodafone Germany have all been cleared to bid in the upcoming auction, which will see a total spectrum package of 270MHz in the 700MHz, 900MHz, 1500MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands go under the hammer.
