Spark completes divestment of international voice carrier business in five out of six country divisions

23 Apr 2015

Spark (formerly Telecom New Zealand) has completed the sale of the bulk of its Telecom New Zealand International (TNZI)-branded international voice carrier business, with operations based in six countries, to Australia’s MyNetFone, although the US-based division of the operation awaits US government approval before divestment. Earlier this month MyNetFone agreed to acquire Spark’s entire TNZI international voice carrier operation for NZD22 million (USD17 million); the acquisition includes a carrier-grade voice network in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania, usage of the TNZI brand, custom-built international voice trading software, and 220 carrier relationships and interconnect agreements. The TNZI website states that TNZI is now part of the MyNetFone Group. Spark says it is retaining its international data carrier business but is otherwise focusing on its domestic market.
