Kyrgyztelecom completes digitisation in Batken oblast

22 Apr 2015

State-owned telecoms operator Kyrgyztelecom has announced that the south-western province (oblast) of Batken has become ‘fully digitised’, following the completion of the Batken-Osh fibre-optic link. Residents in the cities of Batken, Kyzyl-Kiya and Kadamjay can now subscribe to its ‘TV + internet’ packages, and have 24-hour access to 88 IPTV channels.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, construction of the Bishkek-Osh-Batken fibre link was completed in October 2014, while the Kyrgyzstan National Communications Agency (NCA) revealed in its 2014 annual report that the total length of the section stretches to 551.4km. A further 76km of fibre is scheduled to be deployed in 2015, connecting Bishkek with the municipality of Kara-Balta.
