Zimbabwe’s state-owned cellular operator NetOne has completed the first phase of its USD200 million 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network expansion project in conjunction with equipment partner Huawei Technologies. The three-year project is expected to be completed in 2016, local newspaper The Herald reports.

Separately, NetOne’s fixed line sister company TelOne has revealed that it has set aside USD9.5 million to carry out its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and metro Wi-Fi projects which were launched earlier this month. Public Wi-Fi networks are being built in Harare, Victoria Falls and Bulawayo, while the FTTH systems are being deployed in areas not currently connected to the copper PSTN network.
