Telecom Italia teams with Sky for IPTV partnership

Sky Italia is offering its entire content line-up over a broadband connection for the first time, via a strategic partnership with Telecom Italia (TI). The move considerably broadens Sky’s reach, enabling it to access the many Italian households who are unable to install a satellite dish. The ‘TIM Sky’ joint offer will be available to any TI customers with an ADSL connection of at least 20Mbps, or a fibre-optic connection of at least 30Mbps. For the first year of service the TIM Sky offer will be made available to existing broadband users for a supplementary EUR14 (USD15) per month, rising to EUR39 for a quadruple-play package. Meanwhile, the telco’s agreement with Sky will last five years, it has been confirmed. Chief executive Marco Patuano told Reuters: ‘The deal will last for five years but it can be renewed because it has strategic value.’
