Si.mobil hits 80% 4G coverage

Slovenian cellular operator Si.mobil has switched on its 400th Long Term Evolution (LTE) base station, taking its 4G population coverage to 80%. The firm, which is owned by Telekom Austria, said in a press release that it hopes to reach 85% of the population by the end of this year and 95% by mid-2017. The network currently covers some 2,700 cities, towns and villages, including 600 communities with fewer than 300 inhabitants. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Si.mobil is Slovenia’s second largest wireless operator, with 30% of the overall market at the end of 2014.
