16 Apr 2015

Movistar Mexico has introduced Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in the metropolitan areas of Guadalajara and Monterrey. Business daily El Financiero reports that the Guadalajara 4G network will initially cover the metro area, alongside Chapala and Colima, with coverage extended during the second half of the year. Meanwhile, in Monterrey, locations covered will include San Pedro Garza Garcia, San Nicolas and the centre of Apodaca, including Mariano Escobedo International Airport.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, back in October 2012 Movistar became the first Mexican cellco to commercialise LTE technology, switching its network on in three locations, namely: the Polanco area of Mexico City; Zapopan in the state of Jalisco; and the city of San Pedro in Nuevo Leon.
