Cablecom takes over Monchaltorf fibre network

15 Apr 2015

Switzerland’s largest cable provider by subscribers UK-backed UPC Cablecom is continuing its takeover spree with the acquisition of a fibre-optic cable network in the Zurich municipality of Monchaltorf. The network was purchased from long-term partner Antennen-Genossenschaft Monchaltorf (AGM) last week, with retroactive effect as of 1 January 2015. Cablecom’s CFO was quoted as saying of the deal: ‘We are delighted that the some 1,250 subscribers in Monchaltorf will now be able to benefit from all of our innovative products and services and have secured themselves access to the future of telecommunications and entertainment.’ Following the sale, the value of which was not made public, AGM will be dissolved.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, over the last three years Cablecom has augmented its own network rollout projects with the acquisition of networks owned by partners, the most recent of which were Uznachcable (January 2015), Komtech Group (September 2014) and Tele-Pregny-Chambesy (July 2014).
