J:COM picks Casa Systems for country-wide C100G rollout

14 Apr 2015

Jupiter Telecommunications (J:COM), Japan’s largest cable operator by subscribers, has selected Casa Systems to supply it with its C100G CMTS solution to support the telco’s rollout of a new 320Mbps service that launched in January 2015. In a press release, Casa confirmed that J:COM had been evaluating next generation CMTSs ‘in response to competitive pressures in Japan where they needed to keep providing much faster, less expensive service offerings while delivering a superior quality of service’. The cable operator ultimately picked Casa Systems due to what it cites as C100G’s ‘superior channel density, its track record in large Tier 1 multi-service operator [MSO] deployments and its ability to deliver higher speed internet access through its support of DOCSIS 3.1’.

Established in 1995, J:COM is Japan’s largest MSO, providing cable TV, broadband internet access and voice telephony to customers through 30 consolidated subsidiaries at the local level serving 5.05 million subscribing households (as of 31 December 2014) in the Sapporo, Sendai, Kanto, Kansai and Kyushu regions. The number of serviceable households or ‘homes passed’ in J:COM franchise areas is approximately 19.39 million.
