EBRD presses for PTK stake

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has reiterated its interest in acquiring shares in state-owned telecoms provider Post and Telecommunication Kosovo (PTK), despite recent comments from Pristina that it would delay any privatisation moves until the operator’s value and performance increases. Kosova Press writes that the EBRD is looking to purchase a 30% stake in the operator, substantially less than the 75% stake offered by the government during the two previous failed attempts to sell PTK.

The paper cites minister of economic development Bilerand Stavileci as saying that he has received a letter from the EBRD, but the official claims that the organisation had not made a ‘concrete’ offer. A senior PTK official, meanwhile, commented on the move, saying that the telco needed more technical and professional support than financial backing.
