The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Bahrain has initiated a public consultation regarding its draft regulation on the importation and use of telecoms equipment. The new regulation defines the responsibilities of the TRA, and indeed any entity hoping to import telecoms equipment into Bahrain. In addition, the new document proposes technical and safety specifications based on international standards. The consultation will remain open until 30 April 2015.
Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Noiami, the TRA’s Technical and Operation director, commented: ‘The new proposed approval regime process is transparent, non-discriminatory and is based on international best practices. It will contribute to facilitate competition in the supply of a wide range of telecommunications equipment, which should benefit consumers by increasing choices of new and modern technical equipment.’
