PCCW celebrating free-to-air TV victory

7 Apr 2015

Hong Kong’s largest full-service telecoms and pay-TV group PCCW has won a free-to-air television broadcasting licence, valid for twelve years to operate two channels, whilst the government decided not to renew Asia Television’s free-to-air licence, leaving PCCW as the sole confirmed licensee, although it is anticipated that pay-TV rival i-Cable will gain final approval for a permit first granted in 2013. That year the authorities had rejected Hong Kong Television Network’s application for such a licence, and the latter company had speculated on investing in Asia Television. PCCW’s HKTVE subsidiary will operate the group’s free TV services.
