MTS Ukraine sells fixed internet, telephony operations to Vega

7 Apr 2015

Russian-backed cellco MTS Ukraine has agreed to sell its fixed internet access and fixed telephony operations in the Odessa and Kiev regions to Ukrainian fixed line telco Vega, a sister company of nationwide PSTN operator Ukrtelecom under the SCM conglomerate owned by Ukraine’s wealthiest man, Rinat Akhmetov. A report from BizLiga citing MTS Ukraine’s press service says that the fixed line operations being transferred to Vega were the former Comstar (Ukraine) assets which had previously been integrated with the cellco, but MTS has decided to offload consumer fixed broadband/telephony to concentrate on its core mobile voice/data services as it prepares to launch its own 3G network. Under the terms of the agreement, MTS Ukraine will serve subscribers of fixed internet access until 30 April 2015, and fixed telephony users until 30 June 2015. It is assumed that MTS Ukraine may continue providing fixed network solutions to corporate clients.
