Metroweb looks at two new fibre markets

1 Apr 2015

Italian fibre-optic network operator Metroweb has agreed a EUR100 million (USD108 million) loan with two banks to help finance its network expansion into two new cities. A report from Corriere della Sera suggests that the operator has a shortlist of markets which includes Florence, Parma, Verona, Brescia and Monza. Metroweb already operates fibre infrastructure in Milan, Genoa, Turin and Bologna, and is looking to push ahead with its own network development ahead of the likely entry of a new investor. Both Vodafone and Telecom Italia are keen to forge stronger links with the Milan-based firm, which is expected to form a central part of the government’s plans to expand broadband connectivity in Italy.
