EU examination of Orange/Jazztel deal resumes; decision expected by 1 June

1 Apr 2015

Having halted its antitrust probe into the proposed acquisition of alternative Spanish operator Jazztel by France’s Orange Group for a second time earlier this month, European Union (EU) antitrust regulators have resumed the examination of the plans. According to Reuters, with the merger investigation having been restarted on 27 March, a final decision on the matter is now expected by 1 June 2015.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, earlier in March 2015 Orange Group was reported to have offered concessions with a view to gaining approval for its proposed EUR3.4 billion (USD4.2 billion) acquisition of Jazztel after the European Commission (EC) had suggested the deal could be considered a significant impediment to competition.
