Movistar to fight USD500m tax bill

31 Mar 2015

Spanish-backed full service provider Movistar Peru has been ordered by a tax court to pay PEN1.581 billion (USD500.9 million) to the Superintendencia Nacional de Administracion Tributaria (SUNAT) in back taxes for the years 2000-2001. Gestion writes that the operator is planning to appeal the decision. The amount sought by SUNAT was originally PEN2.3 billion, but a ruling in March 2013 found in favour of Movistar in three of the tax agency’s five complaints, specifically those regarding financial charges, the provision of doubtful accounts and documentation not supporting expenses.
