The Council of Ministers of Mali has reportedly paved the way for SIM registration in the country, having adopted a draft decree at the end of last month which will require mobile subscribers to provide their details when signing up for a service, according to Agence Ecofin. The decision, which was actually taken in a meeting held on 25 February, was said to have been prompted by growing concerns over the use of mobile services in the commission of crimes. No date for the introduction of SIM registration has been mentioned, however, and it has not been confirmed how, or indeed if, existing subscribers will be required to provide their details.
