Thai state-backed telco TOT has announced plans to expand its existing IPTV services with the offer of streaming over-the-top (OTT) channels to users of any broadband connection, regardless of the internet service provider (ISP). The new service, delivered via TOT’s IPTV set-top box, will cost a one-off payment of THB3,500 (USD106.75) and give access to 108 channels from Thailand and overseas. TOT’s existing IPTV service is available to TOT broadband subscribers only, costing a monthly fee of THB150. ThaiTech reports that TOT has also announced plans to launch two new premium IPTV packages: the first costs THB390 per month for 132 channels (18 in HD), while a THB750 new package offers 164 channels (includes 33 HD).
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that the full commercial launch of TOT’s ‘MeTV’ branded IPTV services came in October 2012 for TOT broadband subscribers in the Bangkok region, giving access to global and domestic channels on multiple screens including TVs (via set-top box), PCs, tablets and smartphones (via a mobile application) along with interactive TV services such as video-on-demand (VoD) and cloud based time-shift programmes. In January 2013 TOT announced the nationwide commercial launch of the IPTV service for all TOT broadband users (6Mbps-plus) across the country, with over 100 channels offered by the end of 2014.
