Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), the Sultanate’s incumbent telecoms operator, has revealed that it has rolled out a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) project in main cities and smaller towns across a number of governorates, and plans to cover all new developments areas with the technology. ’FTTH is a state-of-the-art technology that provides high speed internet broadband with speeds more than 150Mbps,’ commented Eng. Said Abdullah al Ajmi, vice president of Omantel’s Integrated Networks Unit, adding: ‘We at Omantel are very proud [to be] the first telecommunication company to provide this service … at different areas in Muscat. There is a rapid growth in demand for home broadband and modern technologies which urged us to adopt a strategy to build new fibre-optic networks in newly planned areas.’
