Regional telecoms operator NetCologne is investing EUR6 million (USD6.4 million) in the expansion of its high speed fibre-optic network in the town of Huerth in North Rhine-Westphalia. Around 24,000 households and 700 companies will benefit from the fibre rollout, with the first customers expected to be connected by the end of the year and deployment scheduled for completion in mid-2016. NetCologne, which is owned by the municipality of Cologne through utilities company GEW Cologne, says customers will be able to access maximum download speeds of 100Mbps.
